Need advice on freshening up my 350...?

I have a used 350 and sitting on my garage floor. Prob gonna get an engine hoist today. Some1 please help on how to get started freshening up this motor. I have no clue the condition before I received it, other than it ran when pulled out 8-m's ago. I dont plan on doing any kind of head/block work- just general clean up, paint, and new add-on's(wires, plugs, rebuild starter/alternator, new battery, carb, intake, headers, HEI upgrade, v covers, timing cover, etc...) NEED ADVICE!
